Dear all,

Your next IST is due next Friday October 30th. This test will be based on Solutions’ Unit 10 called Be Creative, and it will include the following:

  • Reading comprehension
  • Listening comprehension
  • Grammar: Determiners (each, all, any, each, much, many, etc)
  • Vocabulary: words related to music (page 94)

On Thursday we will practice in class to prepare this assessment.

Academic Honesty – Towards a good Personal Project

According to, Josephson Institute of Ethics these are the types of plagiarism in papers and assignments (using the ideas, data or language of another without specific or proper acknowledgment)

  1. Giving or getting improper assistance on an assignment meant to be individual work. (When in doubt, ask.)
  2. Including in any assignment turned in for credit any materials not based on your own research and writing. This includes:
    1. Using the services of a commercial term paper company.
    2. Using the services of another student.
    3. Copying part or all of another person’s paper and submitting it as your own for anassignment.
  3. Acting as a provider of paper(s) for a student or students.
  4. Submitting substantial portions of the same academic work for credit in more than one course without consulting both teachers (self-plagiarism).
  5. Failing to use quotation marks where appropriate.
  6. Failing to properly acknowledge paraphrased materials via textual attribution, footnotes, endnotes and/or a bibliography.
  7. Making up data for an experiment (“fudging data”).
  8. Citing nonexistent sources (articles, books, etc.).

TASK 1: The class will be divided into 6 groups and each group will have to answer a set of questions. Copy of the questions are included below:

c)  If cheating is widespread, does that justify individuals cheating to compete or in self-defense?

C)  What are the different ways kids cheat at school?

GROUP 3

Do cheaters sometimes prosper? Why?

a)  If it works, is that an adequate justification to cheat?

Does cheating affect trust?

a)  If so, in what ways?

b)  Should cheating affect trust in the person who cheats?

TASK 2: Your group will be given a handout with information regarding HOW TO CITE A WEBSITE/ONLINE SOURCE or YOUTUBE VIDEO PROPERLY. In groups, you will have to transfer the info from the handout onto a big friendly poster or visual.
